Family Fun Trail Ride as Aonia Pass Sunday will benefit Dream House for fragile children

Registration will open at 8 a.m. on Sunday, May 6, for the fourth annual off-road Family Fun Trail Ride at Aonia Pass Off-Road Park.

"Mr. Perry Gunter, the owner, will again offer his facility for the charity event at no charge to the volunteer organizers," said Sam Shaw, event organizer. "He makes this possible."

The event benefits the Dream House for Medically Fragile Chil- a 501c(3) non-profit corporation headquartered in Lilburn, Georgia.

The Family Fun Trail Ride is for riders of off-road motorcycles and ATVs. Riders must be at least 6 years old. Riders under age 18 must have a parent present to sign a liability waiver. Further details may be found online at http:// dreamhouse.dyndns.org/.

The Aonia track has hosted the fund raiser for Dream House for four years. During her 20-plus years as a registered nurse, Dream House founder Laura Moore learned that there were hundreds of homeless, medically fragile children living in Georgia hospitals. These children have serious or chronic medical conditions that require constant medical care but whose families are unable or unwilling to care for them.

"They have been removed from their homes and are wards of the state. However, most foster parents are not trained or equipped to care for them. The children end up alone and living in a hospital or senior nursing home," Shaw said.

At the end of Moore's nursing shift, he said, the children would ask, "Miss Laura, won't you please take me home with you?"

Moore decided to do something about it. She founded the Dream House organization to provide support and resources to help foster parents care for these children in their homes. To learn more see http:/ /www.dreamhouseforkids.org/.

Recently, Laura Moore was named ABC World News Person of the Week.

This year, Shaw said, the use of the motocross track is not included in the Family Fun Trail Ride. "We are not able to recruit a sufficient number of volunteers to man the track marshal flagging positions. The motocross track will be open to the public as usual for an additional fee. It just is not part of our event," he said. "We will have a beautiful 10-mile trail through the woods and fields and a half-mile field track for the pee-wees."
