Elizabeth Bryant Johnson guest of honor at 78th birthday celebration

Elizabeth Bryant Johnson of Augusta was honored on the occasion of her 78th birthday at a celebration Saturday afternoon, April 21, given by her grandson, David and Hope Slaton, Daniel and Haileigh, at his residence in the Norman community. Her birthday was April 19.

Mrs. Johnson, widow of Roy L. Johnson, was born in Wilkes County and now resides in Augusta where she has been living in the same residence for the past 50 years.

Mrs. Johnson was greeted by her daughters and their spouses, Louise and Mike Webb of Washington, Mary and Robert Jackson of Augusta, Jeannie and James Ray of Talladega, Ala., and son, Roy L. Johnson Jr. of Augusta; grandchildren and spouses in addition to host, David and Hope Slaton, Brandon Webb of Washington, Donnie and Sara Ray of Wake Forest, N.C., and Michelle Tyler of Leads, Ala., and great-grandchildren, Daniel and Haileigh Slaton, Chloe and Sidney Tyler and Matt Ray. Also present were nieces, Janis Abner Kitchens of Stapleton, Maggie Abner Montgomery of Warrenton, Freddie and Susie Reeves and granddaughters, and Julia Newsome of Thomson, and Vesta Neal of Gibson; greatnieces, Debra Kitchens Brantley of Stapleton, Robbie Kitchens Randolph, Alexis and Ronald, of Thomson, Denea Todd and River of Augusta and Dana Rabun of Gibson. Joining the celebration were Clem Slaton, Pat Lahr and Mary Wideman of Washington-Wilkes.

Barbecued chicken, prepared by Clem Sutton and Pat Lahr, was served with all the trimmings and a bounty of desserts.

Mrs. Johnson was presented a full sheet birthday cake featuring a woven basket design filled with beautiful pink and lilac roses to celebrate the very special occasion.

The day ended as many honored her with gifts, lots of love and many memories.
