Youth Leadership Wilkes graduates 13 students

Thirteen Wilkes County high school students graduated from Youth Leadership Wilkes Monday night, giving their final presentation to their parents and community leaders at a dinner at the Fitzpatrick Hotel.

Christina Albertson, Trey Berry, Thomas Booker, Rodney Bowling, Tiffany Bowling, Akeimos Coleman, Troy Colvard, Melacia Cullars, Michael Edwards, Chantel Huff, Jasmine Jones, Ashley Kearney, Beunka Stephens, and Michael Wylie were presented with plaques at the year-end review and celebration.

"The students have been working hard this year," said Carolyn Reynolds, Executive Director of the Wilkes County Community Partnership. They began the year by identifying issues they wanted to address as a group. They spoke with local leaders, addressed government meetings, participated in community service projects, and provided support for events such as the student health fair at their high school, she said.

During Monday night's graduation dinner, the students gave PowerPoint presentations on their year's efforts. They were then presented with plaques honoring their graduation from the program.

Leaders Carolyn Reynolds and Marcie Simpson gave special thanks for the program's financial supporters, the Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce, the Wilkes Co. Board of Commissioners, Wilkes Co. Career Development Center, Fievet Pharmacy, McDonalds- Cravco, Inc., the Rotary Club of Washington, and Wilkes Co. Community Partnership, Inc.

The program was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, the Wilkes Co. Community Partnership, and the Wilkes Co. Cooperative Extension, UGA.
