School computer science dept. meets with Wilkes businesses

On Thursday, April 26th, the Business and Computer Sciences Department (BCS) at Washington- Wilkes Comprehensive High School hosted a meeting of the BCS Advisory Committee. The meeting was held in order for business people around the community to express their comments and concerns about the teachings of the BCS Department and the department's ability to prepare students for entering into the business world after graduation.

The BCS department is currently striving for industry certification to facilitate the transition from school to work.

Members of the Washington- Wilkes Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America also attended the meeting to present FBLA to the business men and women to receive their feedback and support for the co-curricular student organization. Members of the committee in attendance were Brittany Anderson, student; Lou Bentley, Career Tech Supervisor; Tanya Morgan and Amy Harkins, BCS teachers; Sparky Newsome, editor of The News-Reporter; Steve Albertson, CPA and BOE member; Lise Kalla, W-WMS business teacher; Pam Anderson, parent representative and WWMS teacher; Donna Hardy, Chamber of Commerce and city council member; Robin Spradlin, para-professional for Charlie LeGette; Adam Bohler, Adam Bohler and Co.; Mary Donna Lunceford, Farmers and Merchants Bank; Sarah Davis, Fievet Pharmacy; and Carolyn Weber, Farm Bureau. FBLA members in attendance were John Lovvorn, programs/ projects manager; Jessica Echols, secretary; Ashley Kearney, member; and Jaleesa Hampton, member. Gracen Ware and Britney Streetman, BCS students, helped prepare refreshments.
