According to recent information, the public says that nursing is the most ethical profession in the United States. Beyond that, it's an easy job that almost anyone can do, right? NOT. Nursing may look like just a lot of physical work involving little more than following doctors' orders. However, in reality, nursing requires high-level, critical thinking and the ability to make decisions that can result in life or death. Good nurses continually observe patients to determine how they are doing and what needs to be done to make a difference. We know there is a shortage of nurses - there is also a shortage of nurse educators as a lot of these educators in Georgia are retiring. With all this in mind, don't neglect the nurses who make a difference in your life. Nursing is a national treasure.

At a recent dance recital in Monroe, two classmates of . . . well, I won't mention the year . . . spotted each other. Both had grandchildren in the recital. It is such a warm, cozy feeling when you see someone from home. ..Recently, it has been suggested that non-vocal communications - hand gestures - evolved long before speech. That must be true as every time we travel to Atlanta, citizens there practice those hand-gesture skills on out-of-town people. Driving there now you realize and appreciate people of Wilkes County.
