Council meets, hears departmental reports

The Tignall City Council met Wednesday, May 9, at the City Hall with Mayor Pro Tem Albert Huyck calling the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Present were council members Charles Bradley, Nobie Keener, and Leon Aycock; City Accountant Steve Albertson; Water Supervisor Clyde Davis; City Clerks Linda Daniel and Jerri Scott; and Citizen Allen Long.

Huyck recognized Allen Long who is with the Wilkes County First Responders. Long stated that it is a concern with first responders that not all residents are in compliance with city and county ordinances regarding residential house numbers. The ordinance requires that all residences be clearly marked with house numbers. Residences that are not marked make it difficult for emergency and law enforcement personnel to locate the persons in need.

Financial reports for April were read and approved.

Citizen Pat Wynn has asked for use of the library for Bible study once a week. The request was denied. Wynn will be offered the use of the lunchroom for $10. The library is currently being repaired and holds historical items that could not be replaced.

Joyce Chamberlain inquired about paving for East Wooten Street. The city makes a request to the state about paving city streets, but the state makes the final decision. The city has a pump station next to Chamberlain's property. The drive into the pump station needs repair. The city will call to set up a meeting with Richard McAvoy.

Albertson explained the city's audit for the last fiscal period. He told the council that they also have to set a budget for the water department for compliance.

The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
