Tammy Bryngelson declares candidacy for Probate Judge

Tammy Thornton Bryngelson has announced her candidacy for the Wilkes County Probate Judge position to be vacated by retiring Judge Jim Burton in 2009. The election is set for November 2008.

"Judge Burton has announced his upcoming retirement after some two decades as Judge," she said, "and I look forward to serving you, the citizens of Wilkes County, in the same, straight-forward manner, combined with the integrity Judge Burton has long been known for."

A life-long resident of Wilkes County, Bryngelson is the manager of 1st Franklin Financial in Washington. Her husband, Mark, is a parole officer with the State Board of Pardons and Paroles. They have a son, Mark, and are members of the First United Methodist Church of Washington.

She said her family gives her perspective. "My concern for the public's safety and fair law enforcement is paramount, as my husband is a parole officer. This allows me to see things with a broader sense of understanding."

Bryngelson serves a the president of the Washington Rotary Club. "I have deep beliefs concerning my civic duty to this community," she said. "Judge Burton announced his retirement at our Rotary meeting, and I announced my candidacy at last week's meeting."

Her parents, David and Diane Thornton, raised her with good Wilkes County values, she said. "They also ensured that I got a good Wilkes County public education in our local schools, and I'm using the same approach with our son, little Mark."

Bryngelson has experience in the courtroom as well as in preparing cases for court. She earned an Associate's Degree in paralegal from Athens Tech. "I think my experience will serve the constituents of the Probate Court well."

Announcing her candidacy this far in advance of the election will give Bryngelson an opportunity to talk with Wilkes County residents. "I look forward to meeting each of you as I travel throughout our community. Please share your thoughts and concerns with me over this important election. I humbly ask for your support."
