Louise McAvoy Hammock

Funeral services for Louise McAvoy Hammock, 93, of Hazlehurst, formerly of Washington, were held Sunday, May 20, 2007, at Hopkins Funeral Home in Washington with Rev. Albert W. Huyck Jr. officiating. Interment was in Resthaven Cemetery, Washington. She died Thursday, May 17, at Triad Nursing Home in Lumber City.

Mrs. Hammock was a native of Wilkes County and grew up in Wilkes County. She was the daughter of the late Isaiah Tucker McAvoy and Maggie Lou Rice McAvoy; and was the widow of Brantley Hammock. She had retired from the Royal Manufacturing Co. in Washington. She had lived the past 12 years in Hazlehurst. She was a member of the Washington First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Delle Strawn of Hazlehurst, and Nelle Zink of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a son, Mitchell Hammock of Elberton; a sister, Lois Hardy of Washington; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers included Thomas Fanning, Ronnie McAvoy, Gary Hardy, Ray Andrews, Tony Norman, and Frankie Williamson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hazlehurst First United Methodist Church, 41 S. Tallahassee St., Hazlehurst, GA 31539.

Hopkins Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
