The Washington-Wilkes Tiger tennis team finished its season at the region tournament held at North Oconee High School. Coach Amy Wheatley, proud of the team's accomplishments, reported that, "We made it farther this year than last year, and I hope we continue to improve."

The girls tennis team for 2007 consisted of seniors Molly Newsome and Jessica Watson; junior Katie Haughey; sophomores Lindsey Guin, Haley Ward, and Rachel Yearwood; and freshmen Jessica Murphy and Gracen Ware. The boys team was made up of seniors Ryan Lee, Larry Davis, Dywane Hampton, and Patrell Turman; sophomores Jesse Drinkard and Lonnell Edwards; and freshman Michael Edwards. Coach Wheatley said she also received a great deal of help from her two managers Michael Griffin and Tiesha Owens.

The team had its annual sports banquet at Pizza Hut, and several players received awards that were determined by votes from the team. Two players were tied for "Most Wins" - Ryan Lee and Jesse Drinkard. Coach Wheatley said these two players were the most consistent, and it showed on the court.

"Most Improved" went to senior Larry Davis. This was Davis' first year playing tennis and both his strokes and serves improved throughout the season, "and he was vicious at the net," Wheatley observed.

Coach Wheatley said the biggest awards went to two deserving individuals. "Team Captain" recognitions were presented to Jessica Watson and Patrell Turman. These players led the team in ability, and model behavior.
