Baldwin, Friedlander to present concert of sacred music at First Baptist June 10

FRIEDLANDER AND BALDWIN
The music department of the First Baptist Church, Washington, will present Joseph Brian Baldwin, baritone, and Chelsea Rose Friedlander, soprano, in a concert of sacred music on Sunday, June 10, 6 p.m., in the sanctuary of the church.

Joseph, a native of Washington- Wilkes, is a student at Northwestern University in Evanston/Chicago, Illinois, pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Voice and Opera Performance and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History.

Chelsea is a student at the Cleveland Institute of Music in Cleveland, Ohio, and is pursuing an undergraduate degree in Vocal Performance. She has participated in several summer music camps, such as the highly acclaimed Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan, where she studied under the Advanced Vocal Program; SongFest's 2006 Artistic Program at Pepperdine University in California; and the Solo Vocal Program and Musical Theater summer programs at Westminster Choir College.

She has performed with New Jersey's Ridge Light Opera's "Operagious!," singing the role of Cupid in "Orpheus and the Underworld;" and the Cleveland Institute of Music Opera Theatre's La Traviata and Friends opera scenes program and the Do Make a Scene opera scenes program. She sang the role of the Dew Fairy in "Hansel And Gretel" and performed the role of Cherubino in Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro," Act II.

Chelsea plans to attend the Miami Frost School of Music's vocal program in Salzburg, Austria, this summer. She is a student of Dr. Mary Schiller in Cleveland and Lauran Fulton Corson when at home in New Jersey.

Joseph is a member of the Music Learning Community, teaching music to underprivileged children in the Chicago area. He is a member of the University Chorale, Northwestern's premier touring choral ensemble, and will be co-chairman of the School of Music Student Advisory Board this fall.

He has received awards in both piano and voice through organizations such as the Georgia Music Educators Association and the Georgia Independent Schools Association Region and State Literary Competitions. He is a seasoned performer, with more than 40 roles in dramatic and musical productions to his credit at the Washington Little Theater Company, Briarwood Academy, and Washington First Baptist Church.

He was selected for the 2004 Georgia Governor's Honors Program in Valdosta in voice performance; and for the 2005 Interlochen Arts Camp in Interlochen, Michigan, where he was a member of the Advanced Vocal Program.

Joseph will be a counselor at the Northwestern University National High School Music Institute in Chicago during the summer. He studies with Karen Brunssen at Northwestern; and is a former student of Patricia B. Burton (voice,) Ruth E. Harris (piano,) and Emilie J. Waters (handbells,) all of Washington; and Jeanie E. Joesbury (performing arts,) Thomson.

There is no charge for attending the concert. Anyone interested in attending is invited to do so.
