At the annual Washington Rotary Club's Awards Night and End-of- Year Party, Wilkes County's Chief Deputy Mike Sisson was awarded the prestigious Community Service Award and Billy Amis was named Rotarian of the Year.
Tammy Bryngelson, club president, presented the award to Sisson "for standing in and taking care of business while our sheriff, and former Rotarian, Gary Rogers, has been out."
Amis is a long-time member of the club and provides leadership in a number of areas.
The event was held at the home of Ed and Roberta George and featured a low-country boil prepared with Joe Barnett's secret ingredients. The club expressed its thanks to Barnett for the outstanding meal.
Also during the awards presentations, Jim Burton received a Will Watt Fellow and Bryngelson was presented with a Paul Harris Fellow award.
On the lighter side, "bookie" Skeet Willingham announced that Gator fan Charlie LeGette was the Heisman Trophy winner for having the highest percentage in the fall prognostication competition. On the other end, Jane Bundy was the recipient of "The Fish" for picking the teams she liked, rather than those that actually won ball games.
