Many of you enjoyed the old photo display at the Tignall Fall Festival last year. Well . . . it is going to be bigger and better this year. Carolyn Gammon has already received many more old pictures and is asking that you look through your collection and send some copies to her for this display. We will need some help in identifying some people in some of these photos. Start now so that we will have all these old pictures in place on November 3. Send to Carolyn Gammon, P.O. Box 416, Tignall, GA 30668. .Visiting with Sara Frances Henderson Friday of last week were Frances Johnson of North Augusta; Jenny Lawrence, Creight and Millie of Columbus. .On Saturday Gloria and Layton Harris went to Fountain Campground. The celebration was at the home of Linda and Johnny Burns. .Kathy and Dale Robertson of Dacula visited with Vivian and Louie Wolozin over the weekend. .Spending last Friday night with Carolyn and Richard Gammon was their granddaughter, Kaci Gammon. They both had to participate in a tea party, using Richard's mom's china. Kaci reprimanded her Pop because he gobbled his cookies and didn't hold up his pinky when he drank his tea. He's learning to do things he's never done before. .Spending the weekend with Alex and Kay Tyler was their grandson, Caleb Tyler of Hoschton. Vinson, the family of Ruth Newberry, and the family of Joe Griffin. .Did your grandparents ever drink buttermilk with crumbled-up cornbread as the only entree for a Sunday-night supper? Well, it seems that now in 2007 it has finally reached the rest of the world; however, now it is referred to as a "Country Smoothie." Some people use Jiffy corn muffin mix which adds sugar, making for a sweeter taste. But, as we Southerners know, sugar is a no-no among cornbread purists. To make the original drink, just add freshly-baked cornbread crumbled Elvis Presley-style and eat as you would a really thick milkshake. Bon Appetit! .Has anyone else here in North Wilkes forgotten the sound of raindrops in the middle of the night? Wasn't that a pleasant sound! .Sunday, June 3, was Jefferson Davis' birthday -- born in 1808. As we all know, he was the only president of the Confederacy. His retirement home (named Beauvoir) in Biloxi, Miss., battered by Hurricane Katrina, is now getting a facelift. .With regard to high gas prices, Jay Leno was quoted as saying, "How do you determine if a gas station is guilty of price gouging? If it's open."
. A really priceless Vent in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reads as follows: "I pour milk out of a little china cream pitcher every morning. Sometimes it's the only civilized experience I have all day." We probably all have that feeling some days. .I have often thought that if heaven had given me choice of my position and calling, it should have been on a rich spot of earth, well watered, and near a good market for the productions of the garden.-- Thomas Jefferson. We are fortunate to have our fresh markets in Tignall and Washington and a special thank you to the local growers.
