Mary Elizabeth Pearson Tobey A memorial service for Mary Elizabeth Pearson Tobey, 72, of Washington, will be held Saturday, June 9, 2007, at the home of Jim and Linda Griggs, 3578 Lincolnton Road, Washington, at 9:30 a.m. She died June 1, at her home in the presence of her family after a long courageous battle against cancer. Mrs. Tobey was born in Springfield, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Dr. Colquitt Pearson and Elizabeth Houran Pearson. She grew up in Miami, Fla., and had lived for the last few years with her daughter, Jennifer Bailey, and her family in Washington. She attended the University of Florida where she met and married University of Miami All-American linebacker Ernest Tobey, now of El Paso, Texas. They traveled around the world after he became an officerin the United States Air Force. Mrs. Tobey was an avid painter of landscapes and was a devoted member of Alcoholics Anonymous and a faithful worshipper at Pathway Community Church in Washington. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Tim Bailey of Washington; a son, Michael Tobey of Juno Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Timmy, Nicole, Chloe, and Emma, Summer, Jonathan, and Jesse; a sister, Barbara Pearson Arau of Sarasota, Fla., and a brother, David Pearson of Coral Gables, Fla. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to one of the following local organizations with which she was affiliated: Wilkes County AA Group, 706 Lexington Rd., Washington; or Pathway Community Church, 120 Brown Road, Washington.
