John Willie Gartrell

Funeral services for John Willie Gartrell, 61, were held Saturday, May 26, 2007, at Zoah Church, Amity Road, Washington, with Rev. Dennis Quinn officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Gartrell was a native of Wilkes County and the son of the late John Willie Zellars and Gladys Floumoy Zellars. He was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church before joining Zoah CME Church. He graduated from Lincolnton High School in 1965 and served a tour of duty in the United States Army and retired from the Georgia National Guard after 21 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Ann Doughty Gartrell of Washington; three children, Lawanda Leonard of Lorton, Virginia, Michelle Wright of Athens, and John Willie Gartrell III of Washington; three grandchildren; two sisters, Carrie Paschall, Henrietta Winfrey, both of Wilkes County; and three brothers, McNeil Zellars, Norris Zellars, and Perry Zellars of Augusta.

McLendon Memorial Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
