Luke Brown enjoys birthday party at Carter Farm June 2

Luke Brown, son of Cread and Alicia Brown of Thomson, was three years old on June 2.

His parents were hosts at a birthday party in his honor at the Carter Farm in Wilkes County at noon on Saturday.

Guests enjoyed the wonderful cool breeze under the trees between the pond and the log cabin as they were served the picnic meal consisting of fried chicken, potato salad, deviled eggs, pimento cheese sandwiches, turkey and ham sandwiches, pickles, tea and lemonade.

Because of the arrival of the much-needed rain, guests moved into the log cabin for the cutting of the birthday cake. The sheet cake was decorated with a pond with geese and ducks and woods with deer and other wild animals. After singing "Happy Birthday" to Luke, guests enjoyed delicious cake and homemade peach ice cream while watching Luke open his gifts.

The children were disappointed that the rain did not allow the canoe ride that Luke's dad had planned, but enjoyed playing games instead.

Joining Luke in his celebration in addition to his parents and tenmonth old brother, Porter, were Bill and Allison Hale, Emmeline and Isabelle, of Athens; Adam and Jessamy Vining and Rufus and Angela Brown of Gainesville; Margaret Fortson of Tignall; Adam, Lori and Anna Wells Ducey of Thomson; and Boots and Shirley Gunter of Washington. Dropping by later in the afternoon to wish Luke "Happy Birthday" and enjoy peach ice cream were Don Carter, Jerry Stover, and Martin Burgess.
