Jillian Malena Wells and Adam Laurie Andrews united in marriage May 5 at First Baptist Church

Mr. and Mrs. Adam Laurie Andrews
Jillian Malena Wells and Adam Laurie Andrews of Washington were married in an impressive double-ring ceremony Saturday, May 5, at six o'clock in the evening at the First Baptist Church in Washington. Rev. Chester Hall of Jefferson officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Richard Wells of Washington.

The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Leslie Andrews of Washington.

The church doors held banners with the couple's initials. The altar was centered with a black iron pedestal urn holding an elegant arrangement of hydrangeas, red, purple and white roses, eleagnus, curly willow, Bells of Ireland and purple larkspur in memory of Martin Johnson Jr., Quinton Wells, Laurie Lunceford, Joyce Lunceford Goodwin, Henry Andrews and Wood Hardy. Smilax draped the choir railing. Pew bows were in loving memory and honor of family and friends.

Guests registered in the bride's book tended by Sunshine Pope McBride of Marietta and Michael Bailey of Atlanta.

Programs were distributed by Emily Treadwell and Caitlyn Leard of Washington, Lola Hammond of Crawford, and Cody Smiley of Ludowici, cousin of the bride.

Musicians were Mrs. Smythe Newsome, organist, Laura Baldwin, pianist, and Ryan Dukes, trumpeter, all of Washington. Family was seated to "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" and "My Own True Love." The wedding party processed to "Canon in D" and the bride to "Trumpet Voluntary." "Trumpet Tune and Air" was the recessional. The congregational hymn was "Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee." Vocalists, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Duggan of Washington, sang "No Greater Gift."

Kermit Hocutt of Washington chimed the hour.

First Corinthians 13:1-13 was read by Mr. and Mrs. Sam Feigles of Riceboro, uncle and aunt of the bride.

Mr. Andrews was his son's best man. Usher-groomsmen were Ashley Andrews, brother of the bridegroom, Joyner Wells, brother of the bride, and Buddy Brown of Washington; Donald Gunter of Anderson, S.C.; Charlie Thornton of Statesboro; Wesley Waller of Athens; Robert Armour of Augusta; and Ryan Cassidy of Mableton. Zach Smith of Monroe was junior groomsman.

Boutonnieres of lime green button pompons and purple waxfloweradorned the lapels of their black tuxedos while the bridegroom's boutonniere was a white rose, lime green pompons and purple waxflower.

Leigh Oxendine of Augusta was matron of honor and Lizzie Newsome of Athens served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Tiffani Andrews, sister-in-law of the bridegroom, and Kelli Tillman of Washington; Julie Evans of North Augusta, S.C., sister of the bridegroom; LaShea Branton of Watkinsville; Jessica Burton of Cairo; Jessica Eason and Paige Eason of Macon. Kirby Smith of Monroe was junior bridesmaid.

Their two-piece gowns featured lilac strapless dropped waist bodices over violet skirts with slight back trains with lilac and violet sashes. Completing their attire were pearl necklaces and earrings, gifts from the bride.

All carried hand-tied bouquets of lime green hydrangeas, red and purple roses, green cymbidium orchids.

Flower girls were Madison Evans of North Augusta, S.C., niece of the bridegroom; and Ella Treadwell of Washington. Their white Strasburg ankle-length dresses were adorned with ecru Battenburg lace. Spray roses, waxflowerand green buttons filled their silver baskets.

Ring bearers were Bryson Evans of North Augusta, S. C., nephew of the bridegroom; and Rex Johnson of Ludowici, cousin of the bride. Honorary ringbearers were Ashton Andrews of Washington, nephew of the bride; and Brice Branton of Watkinsville.

Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride was radiant in her champagne strapless gown. The bodice with a corseted back was covered in pearls and crystals that also extended up the front and back of the gown and were featured in a band around the hemline and chapel train.

For the ceremony she wore her mother's veil that was edged in lace and extended beyond the train. She wore a shorter veil for the reception.

Her bouquet of white roses was hand-tied with cream satin-edged chiffon ribbon.

Pinned under her gown were keepsake handkerchiefs left to her by Malena Johnson, Beatrice Allen, M.W. Johnson Jr., and a bonnet given her at birth by Mr. and Mrs. Sam Feigles. She had a blue handkerchief borrowed from Mrs. Mary Lois Akins-Newsome. Also borrowed were pearls from Mrs. Oxendine. Her "something new" was a pearl bracelet from her bridegroom.

The bride's mother chose a long two-piece silk pale taupe ensemble. The three-quarter sleeve jacket featured designs in crystals and beads.

The bridegroom's mother wore a silk gown with scalloped edging. A satin collar and cuffs adorned the matching jacket closed with a simple diamond bow clasp.

The couple presented their mothers engraved silver tussie mussies filled with white roses.

The bride's grandmother, Mrs. Quinton Wells of Hinesville, wore a soft pink two-piece dress. Her grandmother, Mrs. M.W. Johnson Jr., of Ludowici, wore a plum tea-length dress. Her honorary grandmother, Mrs. Wood Hardy of Washington, chose a champagne tea-length dress. They were presented orchid corsages.

Seated with the bridegroom's mother were his aunt, Mrs. Jane Mealy of Charlotte, N.C.; cousin, Eric Mealy of Las Vegas, Nev.; and great-uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. John Glover of McDonough.

Mrs. Jack Harvey directed the wedding assisted by Mrs. Jay Durham and Mrs. Joe Bennett, all of Washington.

Reception

Following the ceremony the couple's parents entertained at a reception at the Washington-Wilkes Country Club.

Guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Souther and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Newsome Jr. and invited to sign an informal portrait of the couple with their dog, Drake.

The front of the clubhouse, as well as inside and around the tent, portrayed a summer garden with hurricanes, votives and large decorative containers of lilacs and hydrangeas with greenery. An "A" banner centered the front door and door leading to the tented area.

Inside, a fountain in a garden setting and pedestal candles were used. Mixed fruits, flowers, candles and greenery enhanced the fireplaces with candles and magnolias tucked inside each.

Two buffets featured matching metal votive trees with magnificentarrangements of green and purple hydrangeas, orchids, red, purple, white and green roses, springeri, curly willow, purple waxflowerand stock accented with trailing ribbons and hanging votives.

Under a floral arch and before a screen of votives was the round table holding the stacked four-layered wedding cake. Amid a setting of trailing smilax, the bride's and attendants' bouquets, was the cream cheese-iced confection of raspberry and strawberry fillings that featured pearl dots and filigree. It was topped with lime green cymbidium orchids. The couple's initials adorned the top layer. Serving were Mrs. Peyton McGill and Mrs. Bill Burdette of Washington.

Others serving were Bailey Echols, Ansley Newsome, Leslie Souther and Emily Treadwell of Washington.

Tables for seating inside and under the beautifully-decorated tent were covered in ivory with alternating lime green and violet overlays. Assorted designs of fresh flowers decorated each. Potted baskets and tiki torches decorated the patio area.

A delicious dinner was served.

Sensational Sounds of Motown from Athens provided music for dancing. The couple danced to "Three Times a Lady." The bride and her father danced to "I Loved Her First" and the bridegroom and his mother to "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face." The wedding party then joined everyone on the dance floor.

The couple left by limousine in a flurry of bubbles. They honeymooned at a Beach B&B in St. Simon's Island with plans for a trip to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico.

Mr. and Mrs. Andrews are living in Washington.

Rehearsal Dinner

Mr. and Mrs. George Andrews entertained at a dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Brian Henderson honoring Jillian Wells and Adam Andrews on May 4.

A UGA Bulldogs theme was used in decorating. The greeting table held a framed invitation, guest book, Georgia memorabilia and arrangement of red and white flowers.

Tiki torches were used about the yard where tables were covered in red and black. Lights were around the deck. Also used in decorating were red hurricane lanterns and votives, Georgia Bulldog candleholders, and octagonal mirrors with votives and red and black beads. The buffet, covered in red and black with a white overlay, held an arrangement of red gerbera daisies with white gladioli and greenery in a white Georgia bucket.

Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared by Mr. and Mrs. Henderson.

The bridegroom's cake Red Velvet featured a large Bulldog head and was surrounded by boxwood hedge. On this table were pictures of the couple at UGA games. The bride-elect gave her prospective bridegroom a black and white photo of them signed "Good Luck and Best Wishes" by Coach Mark Richt. The table was covered with a black cloth with a UGA football field overlay. UGA helmet lights edged the table.

One hundred guests attended.

Wedding Day Brunch

Jillian Wells and Adam Andrews were honored at brunch at the Branan home on Poplar Drive on May 5. Hostesses were Susan Branan, Rosalyn Adams, Kathy Poss, Pat Thornton, and Ashley Sheffieldof Athens.

Out-of-town guests and the wedding party enjoyed a delicious buffet.

Breakfast

Donna Hardy, Barbara Roberts, Penny Callaway, Sheila Callaway and Stephanie Chapman were hostesses at a brunch Sunday morning at the Georgia Baptist Association Mission Center honoring the wedding party, family, and out-of-town guests in Washington for the Wells- Andrews wedding.
