Big Wilkes fireworks celebration still needs funds; 'celebrity baggers' fundraiser planned for June 30
"Thank you, thank you, thank you to those who have already donated. I appreciate it more than you know!" she said. "But we're down to crunch time, the fireworks celebration is just three weeks away! I'm so proud to have a fireworks show as fantastic as the one Washington has, and it says even more that the citizens of Wilkes County completely fund it." Barnett is organizing the Celebrity Baggers Fund-Raiser at Bi-Lo for Saturday, June 30, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to raise more money. "Please call or e-mail me if you would like to help us bag groceries and take donations! We will also be having a cook-out on that day as well, in front of Bi-Lo, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., so if you don't have time to bag groceries with us, come by and have lunch. Your money goes to the donation fund, 100 percent." Wilkes County EMS will be on site for free blood pressure screenings and will also be showing children the different trucks and the inside of the ambulance, she said. "The Washington Fire Department, too, will be there so kids can see and talk to the firefightersand look at their firetruck." Every year, Wilkes County has celebrated the Independence Day holiday with music, food, fun, and world-class Melrose Pyrotechnics fireworks display that has brought visitors from all over the state. The Fireworks Celebration is a huge draw for Washington and Wilkes County, she said. "This year it will be an all-day event, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with live entertainment by Bragg 'n' Hughes and Friends band, who play at the Jockey Club regularly. We will have many food and arts and crafts vendors on The Square. So come on out for some food, fireworks, fun, and fellowship on the 4th of July! You're in for a treat!" To make a donation, checks can be made payable to Better Hometown Promotions, and mailed to Better Hometown Promotions; Attn: Fireworks Celebration; P.O. Box 9; Washington, Georgia 30673.
