Could have burned a thousand acres
Quick work on the part of Washington-Wilkes firefightersstopped this camper firelast week on the Highway 78 Bypass from spreading to surrounding woods. Fire Chief Alan Poss said that despite recent rains, the wildfire danger in Georgia is still high. Outdoor burning may be allowed on a case-by case basis, he said, but he warned especially of the danger of shooting fireworks near dry brush over the Fourth of July holiday.
