Annual Independence Day parade starts at 8 a.m. behind courthouse

The tenth annual Independence Day Parade will get underway promptly at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, July 4.

The parade will begin at Fort Washington Park behind the Wilkes County Courthouse; go up to The Square; down Spring Street; left on Liberty Street to the Mary Willis Library; left on Jefferson Street; and back to the park.

A brief remembrance of Independence Day will be held at this time. Bobby West, veteran of the Viet Nam War, will be the parade marshall.

The event is for walkers, bicycles, tricycles, scooters, strollers, wagons, dogs, cats, and people. No motorized vehicles are allowed.

Prizes will be awarded for best decorated bicycle, best stroller, best wagon, and dogs.
