Julep cups: you can't get more Southern than that
Southern silver julep cups are on display at the Washington-Wilkes Museum. The museum's display contains a cup by Savannah's Fredrick Marquand.
Julep cups are usually simple, tall silver beakers made to hold pure nectar call a "mint julep."
The talented silversmiths of the 19th century used their craft to satisfy thirst. Must antebellum julep cups that reside in collections or occasionally appear in antique shops or on e-bay do have marks of Kentucky makes. Others might contain marks from Tennessee or South Carolina.
