Even with rain, still a danger of wildfires
Even though parts of Wilkes County have had rain like this brief frog-strangler on the North Bypass, District Ranger Mark Munns says that the danger of wild fires here is still moderate. "The danger has decreased, but we're still issuing burn permits on a day-by-day basis, depending on the weather." After a brief rain, he said, primary fuel like dry grass can be tinder-dry again in just an hour.
