Rev. and Mrs. Jim Newsome returned to their home in Vero Beach, Fla., after visiting his mother, Mrs. Jenelle Newsome, several days last week. They all visited Mr. and Mrs. Jamie Newsome and Anna in Martinez several times. The Jamie Newsomes visited them in Washington several times. .We are saddened by the death of Mrs. Florence Turpin Ingram last week. Her children are Vickey I. Glenn, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Ingram and family, and Mr. and Mrs. David Ingram and family of Flowery Branch, and Paul Ingram of Smyrna. Miss Florence was buried Monday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where she taught the adult Sunday School class along with Sara Huff who also teaches. We extend our love and sympathy to Miss Florence's family. Those attending the funeral from our community were Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Dunnaway, Wade Dunnaway, Linda Standard, Sara Huff, Alex Dunaway, Mrs. Lucille T. Ingram Trudy Ingram, Lona Chesnut and Roy, Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Ryll and children, and Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Davenport and Tyler of Hayesville, N.C. Cassie Goldman and Bryson Taylor also attended. .Mrs. Linda Standard and Mrs. Sara Huff met Jennifer Standard (Houpt) in Augusta Saturday to pick up Peyton Standard for a visit with his grandparents, Linda and Keith Standard. Jennifer and her family recently moved to Lexington, S.C. Linda and Sara also went to Ft. Gordon on business while in Augusta. .Last week, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Phillips, Stephanie Haynes, Chip and Skyla visited Mr. and Mrs. Frank Phillips in Soperton. They were invited back on July 4 for a family reunion which they enjoyed very much. On Friday of this week Brenda and Richard visited Rebecca Phillips in Conyers. Becky was not feeling well. Sunday, July 8, Mr. and Mrs. Phillips, Stephanie Haynes, Chip and Skyla enjoyed a trip to Thomson. .Cassie Goldman and Bryson Taylor visited her mother, Deanne Johnson in Hull, Sunday. They enjoyed going to church together. .I attended the funeral of my cousin, Ray Carlile (Penny) Pinson in Greenwood, S.C., at Blyth Funeral Home Chapel last Friday. Penny was only 62 years old. He will be missed. He lost his battle with cancer. He leaves his wife who is also battling cancer; his dad, two daughters, two brothers, and six grandchildren. .Happy birthday to all celebrating a birthday this month. The ones I am aware of are Lewis Hall and Paul Peeler, July 3; Eva Burdette, July 4; and Marchia Hall, July 8. I will share more birthdays with you next week. .Mr. and Mrs. Joe Shank of Lexington, S.C., visited Mrs. Dot Shank Tuesday and Wednesday. .G.B. and I visited my parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wallace in Lincoln County, Sunday. We had dinner with them. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Goff of McCormick, S.C., joined us. Garnett Wallace also visited. .We are thankful for the rain that has come off and on recently. We needed it really bad. We got about an inch Sunday and really appreciated it so much. .Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Ansley Jr. returned home Friday from a delightful trip to Jamaica. .Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Gay made a trip to Augusta Tuesday. .We are sorry to hear of the death of Gary Smith. He and his family were our neighbors on Water Street years ago. They purchased the Clifford Shank home and have been remodeling it. .Aubrye Walker and friend, Odell Witcher, of Athens visited Mr. and Mrs. Keith Standard Saturday. .Dr. Dupree brought an interesting message to us at Ebenezer Baptist Church Sunday. We are studying the Ten Commandments. The first series was titled "Above All Else, Love God Alone," taken from Exodus 20:3 and Matthew 19:16-22.
