Advance Auto Parts opens store here; sets new standard for hours, services

Washington Mayor Willie Burns cuts the ribbon at Saturday's Grand Opening of the new Advance Auto Parts store on East Robert Toombs. The store now employs a dozen Wilkes County residents.
A dozen Wilkes County residents have new jobs at the new Advance Auto Parts store which opened its doors in Washington at last week.

Company officials said they chose this location - on East Robert Toombs Avenue next to CVS - for the 7,000-square-foot store because it's convenient for customers and because of the area's growing number of do-it-yourselfers taking care of their vehicles.

And, raising the bar for customer convenience in Washington, the store is open Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sunday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Eamon Doherty is the new store's manager and works with 15 other team members there. Doherty has been with the Advance Auto Parts team for over a year.

The new store offers customers several free services. Store team members will install windshield wipers for free, and also install bat- teries following a complimentary check of the vehicle's electrical system and old battery.

The store also offers fast parts delivery to local commercial customers such as professional mechanics and garages. Customers also can drop off used motor oil and batteries for recycling.

Free advice and instruction that help drivers complete their vehicle project - whether it's as simple as a wash and wax or replacing spark plugs - are available in the store through Advance Auto Parts' consumer education program. More than 120 brochures take drivers step-by-step through a variety of projects and video "how-to" clinics are broadcast regularly in the store on AdvanceTV, the company's exclusive in-store network. Also as part of the consumer education program, the company's website, AdvanceAutoParts.com, offers articles, videos and iPod downloads in the site's "Advance Know-How" section.

"These free consumer education tools, and the expert advice the new store's 16 team members provide, help customers keep their vehicles looking good and running well," said Larry Wood, division manager for Advance Auto Parts. "The right parts at the right price are as important as the right advice and educational tools to finish the job."

Headquartered in Roanoke, Va., Advance Auto Parts is the secondlargest retailer of automotive aftermarket parts, accessories, batteries, and maintenance items in the United States, operating more than 3,000 stores in 40 states, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
