Doris West Walker Funeral services for Doris West Walker of Jonesboro will be held Thursday, July 12, 2007, 11 a.m., at Jonesboro First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Carter's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Rayle. She died July 9 at Southern Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Walker was a native of Wilkes County and was the daughter of the late Luther H. West and Kate Meadows West. She was the widow of Luther Joseph Walker. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville and taught in the Georgia public schools for 35 years. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society for 43 years; a life member of GREA and NREA; a member of the Jonesboro Historical Society and a member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. She self-published four family histories after her retirement.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Anne Walker of Lawrenceville; and two grandsons, Andrew Walker of Lawrenceville, and Joseph Walker and his wife Sonya of Dahlonega.
