Marion Tutt Jr. is first to enter race for Council District 1 seat
A life-long resident of Wilkes County, Marion Tutt Jr., 41, has announced his intention to represent District 1 on the city council. "I am very concerned about the economics and the people of this town," stated Tutt. "I love that we are a small town with huge potential. I realize the need for effective leadership, and I believe that leadership lies in me. I am a proponent of economic development for the city and would like to be instrumental in bringing more development to District 1." He went on to say that he is a hard worker and believes in the things that have made this country great such as good family values. The candidate is employed by Mike Thornton Trucking. Concerning community activities, Tutt has served as a coach for Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation. He is also an active member of New Salem Baptist Church. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, cooking, and traveling. In other comments, the candidate said, "I am very much involved in the issues facing my community. Having my finger on the pulse of the community and a desire for better things for the children of our town qualify me to be the next District 1 representative." In conclusion, Tutt explained that his platform is simple: l Listen to the people in the district. l Find out what their needs are and act to meet these needs. l Bring the real issues to the table as a member of the city council where constituents can come, voice their concerns, and get results.
A 1984 graduate of W-WCHS, the candidate is the son of Marion Tutt, Sr. and the late Mildred Booker. He and his wife, Shameco F. Tutt, a cosmetologist, have two children, Byron, 17, and Carrington, 6.
