Turnout promises to be 'wonderful' for Miss Wilkes Co. Pageant set for Sept. 29

Young ladies from all over Wilkes County are filling out their entry forms to try for the crowns of Miss Wilkes County and Little Miss Wilkes County Wilkes County The big, county-wide pageant set for September 29 at the Pope Convention Center.

"Girls have been just flocking in here to enter," Tourism Director Ashley Barnett said. "We're going to have a wonderful turnout."

"Contestants for Miss Wilkes County and Little Miss Wilkes County," announced last week, "will win beautiful crowns and sashes and prizes. There will be a winner and four runners-up in each division." Complete information is available at MissWilkesCountyPageant.com

Entry forms may be picked up at the Chamber of Commerce, The News-Reporter, Talk of the Town, Bee Southern, Sophie's, and Tena's Jewelry and Gifts.

The winner will make their first public appearance as Miss Wilkes County at the Mule Day Southern Heritage Festival in October.

Divisions will be: Baby Miss 0-11 months; Toddler Miss 12-23 months; Tiny Miss, 2-3 years; Little Miss 4-6 years; Petite Miss 7-9 years; Deb Miss10-12 years; Teen Miss13-15 years; and Miss16-18 years old.

The attire 0-12 years will be Sunday dress only, Barnett said. Pageant dress is allowed for 13-18 years.

Entry fees for the pageant include the $25 mandatory beauty pageant fee. Optional competitions include Photogenic, Prettiest Smile, and Best Dressed, which are each $5 additional.

There will also be a no-charge Peoples Choice Picture competition. "At the pageant everyone can vote for their favorite contestant for $1 per vote," Barnett said. "The contestant who receives the most cash votes wins a cash award. The cash award will be given at the end of the pageant, so bring all your friends and family to the pageant to vote for you!"

Pageant officials will need a picture of every contestant for this event, separate from the one they use for the Photogenic contest.

Admission will be $5 for adults, and $3 for children fiveand under.
