Lift-a-thon is Saturday; reserve tickets on sale

Drew Wilson works on his power clean technique in preparation for the Lift-a-thon this Saturday.
As summer begins to wane and the opening of the 2007-2008 school year looms, Tiger football players have already been hard at work preparing for the beginning of practice for the coming season. Voluntary weight-lifting sessions have been going on at the school and athletes are bulking up for gridiron action which starts next month.

Fans are also beginning to feel the stirrings of Tiger Pride and hopes of another good season on the football field. Washington-Wilkes will again be classified AA this year and the varsity schedule looks much like it did in 2006 - except the sites are reversed.

Officialaction begins on Friday, August 31, when the Tigers travel to Warren County for the season opener. However, fans and coaches will get a preview and a last chance to make adjustments a week earlier when the team participates in the annual Jamboree game, this year at Elbert County. The home opener for 2007 will be on September 14 when W-W hosts somebody at 7:30 p.m.

Deon Jackson, Graham Wolfe, and Troy McTier have been working this week to prepare for this weekend's Tiger Lift-a-thon.
But the first big event of the 2007 football season is this Saturday, July 28, at the annual Tiger Lift-a-thon from 9-11 a.m. on The Square in downtown Washington. Players will be trying to break their personal max records on the power clean and bench press and the public is invited to attend and watch during the fundraising event.

Reserve seat tickets for home games in 2007 will also go on sale at the Lift-a-thon but sale dates and times are limited so fans are urged to get their tickets early if they want the same seats they've had before. Any tickets not purchased by August 29 will become open for anyone to buy.

Athletic Director Russell Morgan also reminds fans that if they are purchasing a silver or platinum club membership, they should do so before August 14 in order to insure that they will be properly identified in the football program.

In addition to the Lift-a-thon, tickets may be purchased at the coaches' officeat Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School on the following dates from 6-8 p.m.

Monday, August 6; Monday August 13; Monday, August 20; and Tuesday, August 28.
