All-Stars finish fourth in state in tournament action last week The Washington-Wilkes All-Star Girls softball team finished in 4th place in the Little League state softball tournament in Rockmart last week. The W-W girls represented Wilkes County well both on and off the field, playing hard and showing good sportsmanship at all times, reported Belle Guin, one of their coaches. After defeating West Point on Sunday afternoon, the team had to wait an extra day to play due to rain. The girls led Rockmart 3-1 until the fifth inning but ended up losing 10-5. A strong Oconee team was too much to handle the next day and handed W-W a decisive 16-2 loss.
"The team and coaches really appreciate all the support from the community," Guin said. "Money, gifts, and fans traveling to Rockmart to cheer us on made the week a special one for everyone involved."
