Sow the seed, let God handle it from there

TO THE EDITOR:

As a long-time subscriber to your publication, I typically am quite "habitual" in my reading of your paper. During the course of my reading, I always check the page containing the crossword puzzle, comics, etc. and looked forward to reading the verse of scripture there. I had noticed prior to this last issue (dated July 12, 2007) that it was not there. I started to comment to you then, but for various reasons as follows:

1) Note above I make reference to "your publication." As such, I typically refrain from getting involved in the business of others.

2) Without having any first hand experience, I am aware that sometimes things are left out or added due to space limitations, etc.

3) Busy!!?? (Not a good excuse ... I know!)

I did not!!

However, following the latest issue, I feel I can no longer be silent. I cannot help but notice that in the same space as what the Bible verse was often placed, there is now a list of the "top ten Best-Selling Beers in U.S." I see no reason to include this in your newspaper. (Keeping in mind it is yours ...) Face it, when considering the millions upon millions of dollars that these very same corporations spend during Super Bowl commercials - I dare say they do not need your additional support.

I ask that you prayerfully consider your reaction to this note! I suspect that the verse you previously included in your paper might (probably?) have been the only verse that some people would read in any given week. Only God knows upon what fertile ground that seed might fall. I ask that you consider sowing the seed ... Isaiah 55:11 tells us that God will handle it from there.

Benji McAvoy

(Editor's note: "Back to the Bible" had been left out due to a format change in the art. The News-Reporter is grateful to Mr. McAvoy for pointing out his concern and is pleased to report that "Back to the Bible" returned to its former spot on the cartoons/puzzles page in the paper last week.)
