Rising costs force increase in school meal prices Rising fuel costs have had an impact on many facets of our lives. One area that has been affected is in the costs of food. Students at Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School, as well as the other schools in Wilkes County, will see this affect in their meal prices in the school cafeteria for the 2007-08 year. The Wilkes County Board of Education approved an increase in the costs of meals over last school year. The "reduced cost" breakfast at all schools will be 30 cents. The "reduced cost" lunch at all schools will be 40 cents. These prices are set by the U.S. Government. The "regular cost" breakfast price at all schools will be 85 cents. However, the lunch prices will differ by school. Full lunch prices for paying students at the respective schools are as follows: W-W Primary School -- $1.25; W-W Elementary School -- $1.50; and W-W Middle School/High School -- $1.75. This year parents will have the option to make online payments for school meals. Information will be available to parents at each school.
Free/reduced meal applications will be given out to each child during the first day of school. One application per family with all children and household members listed should be returned to the school as soon as possible. Applications must be completed with all information requested. Incomplete applications can not be processed and will cause a delay in determining the payment status of the student. Students will not be allowed to charge more than three meals on their account.
