Camping is the thing to do now! It's changed a lot since we went camping back in the 1970s. Camping then was really roughing it and battling with bugs and dirt. Now most people have air-conditioned campers and all the conveniences. We once had a huge tent (I called it a castle tent) that we used for 45 minutes (it rained.) Then we had a pop-up camper (no air-conditioning) that we used one time. A large group of Tignall Baptist Church people go to Wild Cat Creek camping every summer. Then some of our members go camping at the beach, in the mountains, and on the lake. It sounds like fun, but I've done the camping thing and will stay home. .There were two family reunions last weekend that we know about. The Bolton family reunion took place last Saturday at Elijah Clark State Park. The Price family reunion took place in Gibson at Braswell Park. Tammy and Danny Price attended this reunion last Saturday. .Myrline and Jerry Thornton had an interesting visitor, Dr. Kelly Crowdis, last week from Wednesday through Saturday. She works with Christian Veterinary Mission in Haiti. She is in the third largest city in Haiti which is Les Cayes. It has 100,000 people. For the past year Dr. Crowdis has been there to teach at a Christian university in animal health. She goes out into the countryside and teaches these people why they need veterinary car. For the people of Haiti their animals are their bank accounts so healthy animals means more money when they sell a pig or a goat to send their kids to school. At the same time it allows her to integrate in the community and build relationships that allow her to share the gospel. Dr. Crowdis will be in Haiti for two years. Myrline says she is the most interesting person she knows. . Visiting this week with Daisy Parker are her daughter Pam Barnwell and granddaughter Virginia, and her friend Tiffany, all of Houston, Texas. .Jeff Tyler of Washington, D.C., spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Tyler. Also visiting the Tylers for a few days earlier last week were Mrs. Greg Tyler and children, Jordan, Caleb, and Sydney, of Hoschton. On Tuesday of last week, Carolyn Gammon and her grandchildren, Curt, Kara, and Kaci Gammon, joined Kay Tyler and Gena Tyler and Kay's grandchildren, Jordan, Caleb, and Sydney, and went to the Second Time Around mini farm where they enjoyed the animals, eating apples off the trees and drinking water from a water hose. They had lunch together after their adventure. .We extend sincere sympathy to the family of James Smallwood of LaGrange. He was the brother of Peggy Ware and Mary Ann Williams. The funeral was Monday in LaGrange. .It was mentioned last week that Wilkes County Baptist Church has a new pastor, Mike Stein from Greenville, S.C. We now know that he and his family will be living in Tignall. They will be moving into the brick house next door to Nobie and Hugh Keener. This was the old Bolton home. Let's welcome them to our community. .Charles and Elizabeth Smith have sold their home in Snellville and are moving into Elizabeth's homeplace, the Lindsey home in Sandtown. We also welcome them to our area. Charles and Elizabeth grew up in this area and both graduated from Tignall High School. .Visiting last week with Vivian and Louie Wolozin was Gary Ware of Wadley. He was here to attend the homecoming at Fishing Creek Baptist Church on Sunday, July 22. .There was good attendance for homecoming at Fishing Creek Baptist Church Sunday, July 22. The men of the church cooked the barbecue and everyone brought covered dishes which were enjoyed by all. There were good revival services brought by Dr. Ben Glosson for the rest of the week. . John and Nonie Yochim and grandchildren, Blake and Aubry Davis and Charlie McAvoy, enjoyed vacationing at Tybee Beach last week. .Visiting last week with Dave and Tody Derrick were Mandy Derrick and children, Sally, Mary Beth, and Noah, of Terceira, Portugal. .Frances Johnson of North Augusta visited with Sara Frances Henderson and Pat Mack last weekend.
