Lula Calloway Bryant Hooks

Funeral services for Lula Calloway Bryant Hooks, 86, were held Saturday, July 21, 2007, at McLendon Memorial Funeral Home, Washington, with Rev. G.L. Avery officiating. Interment was in City West Cemetery. She died July 11.

Mrs. Hooks was the daughter of the late Burdell and Hattie Calloway. She had been a member of the Springfield Baptist Church and as a member of the True Vine Missionary Baptist Church in New Britain, Connecticutt, was named "Mother of the Church" by her pastor. She was the widow of John Hooks.

Survivors include six children, Randolph Calloway, New Britain, Conn.; Rickey Bryant, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Beverley Woods, Hope Mills, N.C.; Angel Bryant, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Lyeilla Kennedy, Long Island City, N.Y.; and Barry Bryant of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a brother, Samuel Calloway, Washington; and15 grandchildren.
