Book Review
The chapter of assorted party cakes includes an astonishingly realistic "leather" doctor's bag cake complete with edible stethoscope, bandages, and pills. Ever wonder what the Queen of England carries in her handbag? The "Queen's Purse" is amazing with its edible coin purse, lipstick, compact and hankie. Then for the chess enthusiast there is a chessboard complete with all the playing pieces, constructed from sugar molds and encrusted jewels. Even though these creations are almost too beautiful to eat, they are made of Colette's own recipes. Included in this book are recipes for chocolate bourbon cake, buttercream icing, fondants, and more. Line drawings and step-by-step instructions will assist you in recreating these masterpieces though they may be difficultfor the beginner. But I think anyone could manage the cake of Rice Krispies treats! Peters' cake designing business is in New York City. She has designed cakes for Prince Pavlos of Greece and other notables. Her cakes have even appeared in the windows of Tiffany's and the White House. They have also been featured in several magazines.
Come by the Mary Willis Library and check out this book and make someone's birthday really special. Also available is Colette's first book, Colette's Cakes, another unbelievable display of wonderful ideas for creating memorable cakes.
