Outlines 'Work Ready Program'
Donna Hardy, Executive Director of the W-W Chamber of Commerce, was the guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Washington Kiwanis Club on Tuesday, July 31. Hardy explained the goals and objectives of Governor Perdue's "Georgia's Work Ready Program" which is designed to better prepare Georgia's workforce for employment. She noted that Georgia ranks 49th in high school graduation rate - which is 77% statewide and 79.8% in Wilkes County. She announced that Wilkes County had been selected as one of 24 counties in Georgia to be a demonstration county for the program. The designation brings with it a grant of $35,000 to implement the program. She explained the four levels workforce certificationand noted that the goals for Wilkes County are to have 214 people tested for workforce job certificationand to increase the high school graduation rate to 81.8% in eighteen months.
