Wilkes Sunday School Union convenes at Cherry Grove The Wilkes County Sunday School Union convened with the Cherry Grove Baptist Church July 27-29, with Rev. Charles Belton serving as host pastor and Andre Butler as host superintendent of the Sunday School. The session was opened by the president, Jamie Johnson, and was followed by the devotional led by Andre Butler and Jimmie Harris. Rev. G.L. Avery preached the sermon entitled "Sometimes Things Get Worse Before They Get Better." Rev. Avery also led the benediction. The Saturday session was opened by President Johnson and the devo- tional service was led by Charles Morgan and Larry Smith. Youth devotional leaders were Trey Daniels and Jamal Johnson. Jazylyn Harris gave the welcome to those attending. Charia Johnson taught the Bible lesson. Charles Morgan was the youth teacher. During the business session it was announced that the Union's 32nd anniversary will be celebrated October 7, 4 p.m., at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church on Baltimore Road in Washington. A picnic for the youth will be held October 6 at the Reese J. Booker Playground on Whitehall Street. Rev. Joseph Williams preached the doctrinal sermon titled "Are You in Church or Just At Church?" During the youth session Jamia Johnson presided as president and Bree-Anna Banks as secretary. The inspirational address was given by Dominique Gresham entitled "I Believe In You." The Bible Bowl was led by Rev. Ed Anderson and Rev. Belton pronounced the benediction. The Sunday morning session was opened by Andre Butler. Devotional services were led by Willie Hampton and Thomas Gresham. Joe L. Towns presided as Sunday school superintendent. Robert King delivered the inspirational address titled "God Is Able." There was singing by Cherry Grove Baptist Church and the missionary sermon was delivered by Rev. Larry Norman titled "When You Can't Get Enough." Rev. Norman led the benediction. The next Union session will convene September 28-30 at Young's Chapel Baptist Church.
