Violent Macon kidnapping ends in Washington wreck
By KIP BURKE news editor

A violent domestic kidnapping and assault in Macon came to an end in Washington Saturday night when the alledged kidnapper crashed moments after a Washington Policeman turned to stop him for speeding.

Alexis Dewayne Haywood, 44, of Macon, had apparently beaten the 41-year-old mother of his child, tied her up, and thrown her into the back of her SUV. Haywood then picked up a friend to accompany him to help dispose of the woman's body, a Bibb County press release stated.

The incident ended when Washington Police Sgt. Harry Noble, on patrol on the North Bypass near the Tignall Highway, clocked a white SUV doing over 70 in a 45 m.ph. zone. As he turned around to initiate a traffic stop, he said, he observed the vehicle miss the sharp turn approaching the intersection, and crash end-over-end off the road.

After approaching the vehicle, Noble discovered two other occupants; the mother of Haywood's 3-year-old child, 41-year-old Bibb County resident Stacey Daniely, was tied up in the rear of the vehicle and had been beaten. Bibb County authorities said that the second passenger, an associate of Haywood's, was a black male identified only as Kendall Hodges.

Washington Police Chief Mike Davis, Sgt. Harry Noble, and Georgia State Patrol Cpl. Paul Waller look for evidence near the vehicle used in Saturday's kidnapping.
Haywood was not injured. He was arrested at the scene and transported to the Wilkes County Jail. Hodges was reportedly treated and released.

Stacey Daniely was transported to Wills Memorial for emergency treatment, then transferred to MCG in Augusta. Her injuries included broken facial bones which were not related to the accident.

Bibb County authorities say that evidence and testimony indicate that Haywood attacked and bound Dan- iely at her home around 4 p.m. on Saturday. Haywood left his pickup truck hidden behind Daniely's home, stole Daniely's Chevrolet Trailblazer and left with Daniely bound in the rear of the vehicle.

At some point after the kidnapping, Haywood picked up Hodges. Hodges stated to investigators that when he discovered Daniely in the vehicle, he attempted to leave but that Haywood forced Hodges to accompany him and potentially to help dispose of Daniely's body.

Family members discovered evidence of a struggle at Daniely's home around 11 p.m. Saturday and notified the Bibb County Sheriff's Office. Investigators were working the case and patrolmen were following up on lookouts when Washington Police notified them of the developments.

Haywood was charged with two counts of kidnapping, auto theft, aggravated battery family violence, terroristic threats, and driving under the influence. He is in custody at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Complex.
