Nathaniel Cullars Jr. sentenced to 110 months in Federal prison

A Federal judge has sentenced a Wilkes County man to more than nine years in prison for possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

Judge William T. Moore Jr., Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court in Augusta, sentenced Nathaniel Cullars Jr., 32, to 110 months in prison last week.

Cullars had pleaded not guilty to charges that he was in possession of more than fivegrams of cocaine when he was arrested last summer. Cullars was stopped in his vehicle by Washington police officerson June 6, 2006, for loud music. During the traffic stop, officerstestified that they retrieved crack cocaine both from his hand and his car's glove compartment.

He was found guilty by a Federal jury in March.

After his sentencing, Cullars was remanded to the custody of U.S. Marshals. He was denied an opportunity to return home prior to surrendering to custody.

In addition to the 110-month sentence, Cullars will be on supervised release for fiveyears.
