Kathy Ross selected area director for USDA Rural Development in Ga.

Kathy L. Ross was recently selected director of Area IV for U.S.D.A. Rural Development in Georgia. She oversees loan and grant programs for business, community facilities, water and waste and multi-family housing in 21 counties in East Central Georgia. She also supervises three local offices in Tennille, Thomson and Waynesboro that handle housing programs. Rural Development has six area officesin Georgia.

"I enjoy working with community leaders," Ross said. "We are partners with local governments and nonprofits. Together, we can make rural Georgia stronger. I'm willing to meet with any community that might want our help."

Ross has worked for USDA Rural Development since 1983, and has been in the Area IV office since 1997. As an area specialist, she helped rural communities with loan and grant programs for community facilities, business programs, and water and waste programs. Prior to working in the area office,Ross was manager of two of the community offices- Sandersville from 1987 - 1990 and Swainsboro from 1990-1997.

Ross has a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Georgia. She was raised on her family's farm in Bartow, where her parents still reside. Her interests include supporting the Swainsboro High School marching band, gardening and reading. She's a member of the Bethesda Primitive Baptist Church in Wadley. She is married and has two children.
