Bethesda Baptist Church at Union Point will have homecoming Sunday, August 19. Revival services will be held Monday through Wednesday at 7 p.m. Rev. Jim Olds, pastor, and the congregation extend a warm welcome to all services. Bethesda and Phillips Mill date back close to the same time in history. Miriam Poss Durham, wife of the late Malcolm Durham, and Edith Davis Sherrer, wife of the late Hinton Sherrer, are among their oldest members. Both are in their 90s with hopefully another one in October. They are both related to many in our area and look forward to reading The News- Reporter. .The beautiful flowers Sunday at Phillips Mill were placed in memory of Krysta Moore by the Ray Moore family. .Phillips Mill Baptist Church is among churches of the Georgia Baptist Association who plan to take part in Christmas In August, a mission project of collecting school supplies and other useful items for Meansville Children's Home. Everyone interested in attending Christmas in August will get together at the Mission Center on Saturday, August 25, at 10:30 a.m. Please feel welcome. It will bless your heart to see all ages separating the different items donated by churches, putting the same things together in different boxes. Usually a group from the home will attend and carry the useful items back. They are real excited and appreciated. You may contact the Mission Center for more details. .Frances Ogletree carried Marion Poss and Joyce Blackburn out to eat at Ivy's in Thomson Wednesday where they were met by Gail Galbreath, Bernice McAvoy, Mrs. Ronnie McAvoy, and a friend from Augusta. .Recent visitors of Dan and Mildred McAvoy and son Jerry McAvoy have been Thomas McAvoy, Billy McAvoy, Warren and Lois Nunn, Dorothy Ann and Jimmy Saxon, and the former Lynn Moss. .There are at least four churches in the Georgia Baptist Association celebrating homecoming this Sunday, August 12. All four are in Wilkes County. I want to wish safe traveling to all and a day that fond memories are shared and the day will add more good memories. Sometimes happy memories can be a good medicine to a broken heart. .Remember that God loves you, and that each new day can be a new beginning. Since I have been shut in a lot I enjoy looking out the bedroom window at one of our pecan trees. Many times the leaves and branches are waving. I can't help but think of someone playing the piano and that reminds me of some of the old hymns I was raised up on, and I sing my own solo to a quiet audience.
