Aonia News

We had a nice, hot Sunday, didn't we. Saturday was also pretty warm. The humidity was extremely high. I noticed some clouds and thunder but we got no rain at Aonia. Lincoln County got some late Sunday afternoon and probably parts of McDuffie and Warren counties, but we did not. Maybe soon. .Richard Thomason of Ft. Carson, Colorado, arrived Friday to visit Taylor McAvoy and the Newsome family. He attended the Newsome family reunion Saturday and Saturday evening we rode to Augusta and had supper. Those going were Taylor McAvoy, her friend, Andrew King of Evans, Sherry Newsome, Shane Gaines, and Tanner of Winterville. We all had a fun time. G.B. visited with Mr. and Mrs. James Casey of Cedartown and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Newsome while we were in Augusta. .On Sunday after church, G.B. and I, Richard Thomason, Taylor McAvoy, Andrew King, Shannon Thomason, Wesley Butler, and Garnett Wallace had dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wallace in Lincoln County. .Linda Standard carried Peyton Standard to Wrens Sunday to meet his mother, and then later to Lexington, S.C., to the new home of Peyton and Jennifer. .Charlene Newsome and Anna of Martinez spent Thursday with Mrs. Jenelle Newsome. .Russell Goldman of Doraville arrived Sunday to visit Mrs. Sara Huff and to fillhis place as pianist of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. After the service, Fran Cornell, who is the new pastor of Mt. Zion, carried Sara and Russell out to dinner at the Home Cafe in Washington. (She is the new pastor for the Little River Circuit.) .Happy birthday to Mrs. Rose Ware who celebrated her birthday with a nice dinner held at Fishing Creek Baptist Church Sunday. Miss Rose is the aunt of Barbara Adams, Betty Moore and Jean Steed, who all attended the celebration. Miss Rose's actual birthday is Tuesday, August 7. Happy 86th, Miss Rose. .Happy birthday wishes also go to Thomas Charping and Lillie Crawford, August 7; Dot Shank and Joe Shank, August 8; also, Thomas and Lillie have the same birthday and they are in-laws; Lillie is Thomas' mother-in-law. .Sincere love and sympathy to all who have lost loved ones recently. Among these are Sadie Goldman Lever, aunt of Russell and Randy Goldman; Mrs. Lever was from Augusta, but reared in Lincoln County. .Cassie Goldman and Bryson visited Mr. and Mrs. Dwayne Fields in Oglethorpe County. .Randy Goldman and Jonathan Johnson of Lincoln County visited Mrs. Sara Huff, Cassie Goldman, and Bryson Saturday. .Cassie Goldman and Bryson Taylor spent Saturday night with her mother, Deanne Johnson of Hull. .Our prayer concerns include Tommy Dunnaway, Grace Dunaway, Joe Charping, Henry and Blanche Wallace, Jenelle Newsome, G.B. Newsome Jr., Bonnie Boatwright, Gene and Sara Lamar, Martha and James Echols, Rev. Randy Bray and family, Marvin and Blanche Armour, John Reed, Elmira Chafin,Sanders and Elizabeth Dallis, Wylie Dallas, Priscilla and Morrison Maxwell, Dan and Mildred McAvoy, Willie Ruth Freeman, Thomas Bunch, Joyce Bowen, Lawrence Burton, Kathryn Padgett, Becky Thomasson, Alan McGee, Rev. Thompson Holloman, Mary Will Denard, Charles Blakey, Conrad Baby and Mother, Oliver and Genelle Gill, Melvin and Ethridge Partridge, Helen Ross, Ruth Bell, Sylvia McCurry, Roberta Roper, Ronnie Callaway, Debbie Lindsey, Roy and Sara Edwards, Rev. .The Newsome family reunion was quite a success this year. It was held at Ebenezer Baptist Church Saturday. Those from our family who attended were G.B. and me, Burt Newsome and friend, Shane Gaines, Trace Newsome and Tanner Barnett of Winterville, Shannon Thomason, Taylor McAvoy, Wes Butler of Danburg, Richard Thomason of Ft. Carson, Colorado, Mr. and Mrs. James Casey, Joan Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. Greg Shelley, all of Cedartown; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Newsome, Mr. and Mrs. Jack E. Newsome and boys, Lisa Miester of Harlem, Mrs. Jenelle Newsome and my friends, Sara Huff and Linda Standard. Aunt Jenelle got a call from Steve Garrett of Florida who wanted to attend but was not able due to illness. He was very interested in knowing who attended. His brother Alec and wife Judy were not able to be here either, nor his Aunt Grace Speers. We also missed Jim and Karan Newsome of Vero Beach, Fla.; Rick Newsome and his family from Springfield, Va. . Bobbi Thornton visited Miss Grace Dunaway and Alec Dunaway last week. Sherry Newsome visited briefly on Monday. .Pat Tuttle visited Mr. and Mrs. Hill O'Neal several days last week. Miss Alma is not feeling well. We hope she feels better soon. .William Tuttle of Daleville, Ala., spent a week at the Tuttle homeplace recently. .Jacob Newsome spent Saturday with his grandparents, Pat and Walter Tuttle.
