Fall season activities beginning at W-WPRD

The Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department (WWPRD) will have many activities for Wilkes County students during the Fall season. Included are some of the following.

CHEERLEADING

The cheerleading squads are made up of girls ages 5-12 years old. Girls must be fiveyears old by August 1 to be eligible to join the teams.

Each squad carries a maximum of 18 girls. Open enrollment began in July. Each girl is expected to cheer for football and basketball games as well as performing in the annual cheerleading competition.

The enrollment fee is $15.00, not including the cheerleader uniform which is required. The enrollment fee is not refundable.

Cheerleaders will enjoy cheering at high school football games; attending cheerleading camp at UGA and other places; participating in the homecoming ceremony and possibly being chosen homecoming queen; riding in the Christmas and homecoming parades; and performing in the W-WPRD annual competition.

FALL SOCCER

Registration for the fall soccer program will begin August 13, with the final deadline set as September 7. The registration fee is $30 for the first child in a family and $24 for the second. No late sign-ups will be accepted.

Games will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and/or Saturdays.

Proof of health insurance must be provided at registration. Accident insurance is available from the WWPRD for $8.00 per child.

There will be four age groups: 5-6 years old; 7, 8, 9, and 10 years old; 11, 12, 13, and 14 years old; and 15, 16, and 17 years old.

Children must e age 5 before October 1, 2007, in order to participate.

Practice will begin the week of September 10. Games will begin the first week of October. The season ends the week of Thanksgiving.

YOUTH FOOTBALL

Youth football is for boys ages 6 through 12.

The final sign-up date is Tuesday, August 14. Any late sign-up will cost $15.00 more.

The first scheduled game will be with Oglethorpe County on September 19, 2007.
