      The Washington-Wilkes Lady Tigers softball team got its 2007 season underway early this week at the Thomson Invitational Tournament with a convincing win over the Aquinas Fighting Irish, 14-3.

      There is a strong rumor that Court TV will make a bid to televise several college football games this fall. The TV deal would be contingent upon Court TV also being granted the rights to all arraignments, motion hearings, and trials of NCAA players and coaches in 2007.

Corbett reaches milestone with 1,000 wins at Prairie Meadows
      Wilkes County jockey Glenn Corbett has reached a milestone that few other jockeys have attained. Corbett was recognized by Prairie Meadows racetrack in Iowa as the first person with 1,000 wins at the track, the Des Moines Register reported last week.
