RAYLE NEWS Rock United Methodist Church will have homecoming Sunday, August 19, at 11 a.m. Rev. David Wright will bring the special homecoming message. Afterwards a covered dish meal will be enjoyed in the fellowship hall. Everyone is invited to attend. .Sardis Baptist Church enjoyed having Robert (Pee Wee) Armour as guest speaker Sunday morning. Joyce Fry led in the inspirational singing with Pam Hall at the piano. Monica Gunter held children's church in the annex of the church and Ethan Armour was in charge of the nursery. Prayer meeting is held every Wednesday evening at 6:00 at the Echols Home. Everyone is anticipating Rev. Jim Newsome coming to begin as pastor of the church in September. Everyone is invited to attend Sunday School at 10 a.m. and the worship service at 11:00 every Sunday. .The heat and weather with very little rain is the biggest topic of conversation these days. We pray we will get relief soon. Kay Berry, who lives on Glenn Road, has many hummingbirds and her feeders are swarming with the cute little hummers every day. She has to fillher feeders daily. I have not seen many this year. .Pam and Boyce Hall and Avery, Martha Hall, and Keaton Wilson took Lindley Hall to her apartment at Georgia College and State University where she will begin classes this week. Best wishes to Lindley. .Lamar and Kay Berry helped Trey Berry move into his dormitory at the University of Georgia Saturday. He will start classes Thursday, August 16. Trey is very excited about going to UGA and has a nice roommate, Jonathon, who is from Sandersville. Best wishes to Trey. .A lovely miscellaneous bridal shower honoring Samantha Armour, bride-elect of Will Callaway, was given Sunday afternoon at Sardis Baptist Church Annex. Samantha received many nice and useful gifts. .Shirley Chafin,Ronnie Chafin,and Raquel went to the Hiawassee State Fair where they enjoyed the Pam Tillis Show. .Peggy Echols and Doris Smathers of Tignall joined members of the First Baptist Church of Washington to go to Abbeville, S.C., to see the play, "Dearly Beloved," Saturday. .A birthday party for Walker Young was held at the home of Ken and Sheila Arnold last Saturday. He is the great-grandson of Troy and Shirley Chafin.Everyone enjoyed swimming and celebrating Walker's first birthday. .Debra Sherrer, Lindsey and Whitney, and Whitney's friend Reese visited Billy and Doris Walker Sunday. .Our deepest heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family of Priscilla Gresham Pitts who died Saturday, July 28, at Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta. Her funeral was at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Lance A. Pitts officiating. She is survived by her husband, Aaron Pitts; daughter, three sons, brother, and eight grandchildren. She was loved by everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. .Our deepest heartfelt sympathy also goes out to the family of Joseph Brantley (Pete) Stevens who died Sunday, August 4, at Wilkes Health Care Center in Washington. Besides his daughter, son, and four grandchildren he is survived by a sister, Dot Branham; three brothers, Gene Stevens, Doug Stevens, and Bobby Stevens. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. .Our vegetable man, Frank Callaway, who died recently will be greatly missed by many people. His friendly manner and gentle spirit won the hearts of many. Many fond memories were made as he proudly sold his vegetables and fruit on The Square in Washington with a smile and a wave of his hand. Our deepest heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family and many friends. .Joan Perez is recuperating at her home on Highway 78 after suffering injuries in an automobile accident recently. Our prayers go out for a quick and complete recovery. .Mablean Sherrer is recuperating at her home on the Philomath Road after spending several days in the hospital in Athens. Our prayers go out for her. .J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright went to Northeast Georgia Cancer Care in Athens for Bonnie's doctor's appointment Thursday. She got a good report, but a biopsy of the throat is scheduled for Tuesday, August 21, at the outpatient clinic of Athens Regional Medical Center. This will tell the results of the radiation treatments. Visiting her were Mary Grace Owen, Randall Roberson, Fallon and Gracie, of Rosman, N.C.; Faye Johnson and Kris of Gray, and Dorothy Callaway. Kim Berry and Aaliya also visited. .George and Ann Wideman enjoyed attending homecoming at Phillips Mill Baptist Church Sunday. On Sunday evening they attended revival service at Clark's Station Baptist Church. Gene Winfrey visited George and Ann one day during the week. Hardy, Bernice McAvoy, Mable Guin, Sue Lee, and James Waller at Wilkes Health Care. .Ann Williamson enjoyed having two of her grandchildren, Alex and Sarah Williamson of Salley, S.C., spend Saturday afternoon with her. They are the children of Ann's son, the late Seba Williamson. .Sudie Kennedy visited Gene and Sara Lamar Thursday and report that they are doing pretty good. Sudie attended the bridal shower Sunday afternoon for Samantha Armour, bride-elect of Will Callaway. .Bonnie Boatwright enjoyed visiting with Kay Berry, Kaitlyn and Bryson Porter, Sunday afternoon. Kim Berry and Aaliya came in while I was there for a visit. Kay is enjoying driving a nice new car. .Zachery and Kyle Frankel spent Friday evening with Clyde and Sandy Whittington. Pa Pa Clyde took them fishing Saturday. .Bonnie Boatwright enjoyed visiting Ruth Flynt Friday evening. .Clyde and Sandy Whittington picked up Fred Wiedner in Lexington and they took Zachery and Kyle out to eat with them at the Krystal in Athens. .Debra Armour went to Quiet Oaks Nursing Home in Crawford Tuesday to attend a meeting and Frances Fendley accompanied her to visit Melvie Esco while she was at the meeting. .Sybil Vaughn and Betty Berry enjoyed the homecoming at Burt's United Methodist Church Sunday. .Spending Sunday with Buck and Linda Echols were Greg and Angela Armour, Samantha, Cody and Hunter, Brittany Armour, Scott and Sissy Smith and J.T., Richard and Lou Heard, Mattie and Hank. .Paul and Hannah Wright and Ava enjoyed the homecoming at Victory Baptist Church Sunday. .George and Mozelle Casey visited Frances Fendley and Joan Perez and Richard Burkett Sunday.
