Qualifying for November elections to open Aug. 27 for mayor, council The city of Washington has announced that candidates for mayor and three seats on the Washington City Council may qualify during the last week in August. Qualifying for the November 6 election will begin Monday, August 27, and run through Friday, August 31, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Washington's City Hall. Qualifying fees for the mayoral position will be $216; the council qualifying fees are $108. During the General Municipal Election in November, the public notice said, a mayor will be elected city-wide, and one council member from District 1, along with two council members from District 2, will be elected.
The terms of Mayor Willie E. Burns, and Councilmen Nathaniel Cullars, Ray Hardy, and Edward B. Pope Jr. expire at the end of December, 2007.
