Qualifying set for Tignall elections for mayor, council

The Town of Tignall has announced qualifying dates for the November election, when Tignall voters will choose a mayor and fivecouncil members.

Candidates may qualify at the officeof the City Clerk, August 27 through August 31. The officewill be open between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. with one hour for lunch from 12 to 1 p.m.

Qualifying fees are $35 for the mayor's race, and $25 for city council seats, said Linda Daniel, Clerk.

Polling place for the Nov. 6 election is the Old School Lunchroom.

Announced candidates include Carlton Norris, who is again seeking the officeof mayor; Marion Tutt, who is seeking the District 1 seat now held by Nathaniel Cullars; and Edward Pope Jr., who is seeking to be re-elected to the District 2 seat to which he was elected without opposition when Councilman Anna Norman resigned last year.

Other candidates are expected to announce their runs for officesoon.

As a matter of policy, The News- Reporter will run an article announcing a candidate's run for officewithin one week of the announcement but not later than one week after qualifying ends.
