Southern Fried Football with CLAUDE CLEATS
Court TV may televise college football?

There is a strong rumor that Court TV will make a bid to televise several college football games this fall. The TV deal would be contingent upon Court TV also being granted the rights to all arraignments, motion hearings, and trials of NCAA players and coaches in 2007. Currently, according to the rumor, Court TV has its eye on the following incidents:

1. A jury has convicted a former Northern Colorado University football player of second-degree assault in the stabbing of a rival punter. Mitch Cozad, a former backup punter at the school, was also charged with attempted murder, but was acquitted on this charge. Cozad assaulted starting punter Rafael Mendoza. Prosecutors believe that the attack was a bid by Cozad to get the starting job.

2. A defensive tackle for the University of Texas, Andre Jones, has posted bond and has been released from jail after his arrest August 3 for Aggravated Robbery with a Deadly Weapon. His attorney said that Jones is merely a victim of mistaken identity.

3. Virginia Tech Head Coach Frank Beamer has, by implication, accused University of Georgia coaches of spying on Tech's pre- Peach Bowl practices last December.

"We practiced out at Georgia Tech and we let all kinds of people through there … people we didn't really know," Beamer said. "And I thought it hurt us in the bowl game. I'm not blaming anybody ... but I thought Georgia knew exactly what we were doing in several situations."

Georgia Head Coach Mark Richt replied that the Bulldogs didn't have any spies at Tech's practices.
