Beulah Baptist Church celebrates 200 years at homecoming events What a wonderful day for the Beulah Baptist Church Homecoming Sunday, August 12, celebrating the 200th anniversary of the church. Kay Tyler and I attended this homecoming and enjoyed every minute of it. Dr. Charles Drummond of the Georgia Baptist Convention Ministry Resources Department presented the church a plaque in honor of its 200th celebration. A corsage was presented to the oldest lady who was Mrs. Lois Flynt; and a boutonniere was presented to the oldest man who was Kenneth Albea. Rev. Jamie Callaway, the pastor, had a good message and he sang a song that he wrote call "God's Been So Good To Me." He has a beautiful voice, so he can sing to the congregation and preach to them. After the service everyone retired to the new Family Life Center for a bountiful meal of barbecue, salads, vegetable dishes, and some delicious looking desserts. Barbara Oakley's little grandson Jackson, who didn't even know us, asked if we ate some of that banana pudding. He said, "You should have eaten some. I made it" After stuffing ourselves on that delicious meal we were hardly able to move back into the church sanctuary for a power point presentation of pictures from early years to the present of many of their members and activities the members have been involved in. Then it was back to the Family Life Center for the Squire Parsons concert. It was a blessing to all who heard this beautiful music. Of course my favorite was the song Squire Parsons wrote, "Sweet Beulah Land."
The church was full for the morning service. I understand there were over 300 in attendance. Others came in the afternoon for the concert. I was especially glad to see that Jack and Jean Rhodes were able to be there for the day. I can't begin to name the out-of-town visitors, but I saw two Elaines whom I hadn't seen for a long time -- Elaine Bunch and Elaine Flynt. I know that's their maiden names, but I don't know their married names.
