Phillips Mill Baptist Church enjoys well-attended annual homecoming

Phillips Mill Baptist Church Homecoming Day was well attended Sunday. There were 71 in Sunday School with more for the worship service.

The call to worship hymn was "Worthy of Worship." Rev. Wade Palmer, pastor of Raytown Baptist church, and his wife Ann were among visitors present. He was invited to have the opening prayer.

Rev. Robert Rayner, Phillips

Mill's pastor, gave a hearty welcome

and announcements. Morrison and

Priscilla Maxwell were recognized as having been missed at church for some time because of health problems. It was a happy occasion for us to see everyone.

The beautiful flowers were placed in memory of Sam and Mary Scott, Sgt. Arthur Scott, and Walter Pope and Dorothy McAvoy, by the Sam Scott family.

It was good to have a lot of the family with us. Among them were Walter Pope and Dorothy's grandson Jeremy who grew up at Phillips Mill, his wife Lacey and their infant son Hayden. Jeremy and his family were invited to the altar for special prayer. So Hayden was the youngest present and had a good nap.

The choir special was "Step Into the Water." Rev. Rayner's message from God's holy word was much food for thought. A covered dish meal and barbecue were enjoyed together in the fellowship hall.

Among other visitors were Mrs. Grace Mathis Beazley of Carter's Grove Baptist Church, and her daughter Ginny and son-in-law Thad Broome who live with her; Marcia Hunter Kirkland, daughter of Virginia Stevens Hunter, her husband Perry Kirkland, their daughter Kimber who is a senior this year at Lincoln County High School, and

several nieces and their families

from Loco Baptist Church.

Some of Mrs. Gussie McAvoy's

children were present; as was the oldest member, Mr. Paul Davison, 98+, and his wife Norma.

Thanks to each person who made an effort to attend and we hope everyone felt welcome and enjoyed the fellowship of worshiping, singing and eating together. I surely enjoyed the day and everyone I saw left smiling.

Special thanks to all who had a part in getting the fellowship hall ready for the occasion and those who took part in cleaning up afterwards.

It was nice seeing some of our youth helping in different ways. All the food was good. You could tell that love went into the covered dish and barbecue meal. I heard a former member sitting at the table with us say, "Phillips Mill has always had some of the best cooks around." Thanks.
