Jack Durham Marable celebrates birthday with family, friends

Jack Durham Marable, son of Mr. and Mrs. Brent Marable of Watkinsville, celebrated his third birthday on two occasions with family and friends at a beach-themed party and Low Country Boil at the Marable home Saturday and Sunday, July 21 and 22. His birthday was July 20.

As guests arrived, toddlers and children enjoyed playing on the playscape, in the sandbox and with beach balls on the lawn. Adult guests enjoyed visiting inside where appetizers of crab dip, pita chips, crackers and lemonade were served.

Following the outside fun, guests enjoyed a birthday dinner of Low Country Boil, coleslaw, fresh bread and fruit. Saturday's Boil was prepared by Jack Durham's grandfather, Martin H. Burgess, with special assistance from his aunt, Molly Burgess, and great-aunt, Mrs. Ed Lane, and cousin, Jessie Crook, visiting from Gastonia, N.C. Sunday evening's Boil was prepared by Jack Durham's father.

The Boil was served from the dinner buffet that held a beautiful arrangement of summer flowers arranged in Jack Durham's monogrammed birthday bucket with sunflowersserving as the central piece of the arrangement. Floating fishadorned the chandelier about the dinner buffet. Beach towels served as the tablecloth for the buffet carrying out the birthday theme.

Jack Durham's Saturday cake held a beach scene that included seashells, crabs, lobsters and an ocean background. He shared his birthday with family friend, Dr. Bill Branan of Washington, and Dr. Branan was presented a cookie cake topped with "Happy Birthday Daddy Bill." Jack Durham's Sunday cake was a cookie cake with sailboats, beach houses and beach balls. Ice cream accompanied both cakes. Favors of ribbontied beach towels were shared with the children in attendance.

Celebrating with Jack Durham and his parents on Saturday were maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin H. Burgess of Washington; aunt, Molly Burgess of Athens; great-uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lane of Rutherfordton, N.C., great-aunt, Mrs. Jack A. Leard Jr., Jake Echols and Dr. and Mrs. Bill Branan of Washington; Jessie Crook of Gastonia, N.C.; Alice Marshall and Steven Dasher of Athens; Carmen and Mari Jo Fagler of Adrian; Mr. and Mrs. Burke Johnson, Walker and William, of Danielsville; Mrs. Ricky Sapp, Hampton and Rosemary, of Atlanta; and Mr. and Mrs. Chris Royster and Rylee Ann of Watkinsville.

Sunday party guests with Jack Durham and his parents were paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Marable; great-grandmothers, Mrs. E.M. Wilkes and Mrs. Harold Marable; uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Michael, Maggie and Garrett; several great-uncles and aunts, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Wall and Patrick, and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Marable; godparents, Mr. and Mrs. Luke Moore, Norine and Silas; Mr. and Mrs. Brandon Wilkes, Grady and Clara, and Mr. and Mrs. Shannon Wilkes, Madison and Logan, all of Watkinsville.
