Christmas in August celebrated

Thanks to all churches of the Georgia Baptist Association who took part in the Christmas In August mission project of collecting items for the Georgia Baptist Children's Home and Family Ministries.

There was good attendance at the Mission Center in Washington Saturday morning, August 25, to welcome those who came from the Meansville Campus near Warm Springs.

Among those who welcomed them were Dr. Norman Waldrip, moderator of the Georgia Baptist Association, and his wife Martha; our associational WMU leader, Fran Thaxton; Lauree Shelton who has been faithful to the Association as administrative secretary and editor of The Baptist Window, a monthly bulletin sent out each month to church leaders for 21 years.

A lady from Meansville presented an interesting program, bringing everyone up to day and answering questions about the children's home ministry. She had three young ladies from Double Branches Baptist Church in Lincoln County where our vice-moderator, Rev. Keith Etheridge, is pastor to put on an act demonstrating how to knock on doors inviting someone to church events. Two of the young ladies were to knock on a door together, one was to stay very quiet in support as the other one did all the talking when someone came to the door. It was a good experience which went over well and the girls were excited and felt more a part, showing how all ages are important to God and useful.

Attending from Phillips Mill were Linda McDonald, Sherrie McAvoy, and Mary Jane Scarborough, who all work with young people, and Priscilla Maxwell. I was happy to have Mabel Johnson of First Baptist Church, Washington, to sit by. She has been very faithful over the years.
